We had a meeting with Adrian today to discuss some of the issues that came from the photography students going through the book.
Adrian had said from the first meeting that he wanted to include a course philosophy, however we have been asking him for this since then and got nothing. In the end we decided we probably weren't going to get one, and deleted the allocated spreads plus 2 others which gave us a total of 104 pages. Then when photography looked through they decided they wanted the course philosophy in there, meaning we had to think of something to go on those 2 pages we'd need to put back in. We didn't want to leave them as blank pages and decided that we'd include some information about the exhibition or separate the college info from the acknowledgements. However after speaking to Adrian today he's now decided that it's better to not include it so we're back to 104 pages and sticking it there.
We also explained that we couldnt keep spending our time updating statements all the time, and that some people had resubmitted 2 or 3 times and it wasn't good use of our time. As of now no content will be changed at all.
The image captions has been a bit of an issue, we want them to add more to the design and to give photographs context. Whereas Adrian felt that some needed it and some didn't. It's difficult as designers to break continuity but I think it might be okay to do it in this situation since there are photographers working across different genre's.
Also the issue to do with whether to include the course team or not in the acknowledgements is still up in the air, as are the names submitted for the catalogue committee. Since we were given names that we would question whether accurate.
We have now arranged to meet Adrian at 3pm on Wednesday to sign off each spread so that it's ready to go to print. We have asked that a member of the catalogue committee also co-signs.
